Old Testament Prayer Promises

02.04.21
 -

Happy New Year everyone!  Well, Rich and I hope you have been enjoying the videos we've posted and now that the holidays are over, we are beginning to post about our experiences and married life.

About 20 years ago, the church I attended offered a program called 'The 3 year covenant community of faith'.  It was a 3 year commitment whereby those who signed up agreed to meet 4 times a year for 3 years for a weekend at Waycross Conference Center, in Morgantown, Indiana, where specific spiritual topics were delved into and discussed.  One of those weekends covered prayer and was hosted by a pastor from Mount Hope UMC in Lansing, Michigan.

Included in the materials for this weekend was a listing of the Prayer Promises of both the Old and New Testament.  (Provided by Mount Hope UMC)

Now, the Old Testament speaks of man's relationship with God during a time of very primitive (beginning) spirituality, where punishment, judgement, vengeance and blood sacrifices to God were commonplace and the peoples and cultures of the time were not yet ready to receive the persona and message of Jesus Christ.

Even though it was not yet time for a 'mature' spirituality, God's promises existed, even back then, and here they are listed, every bit as valid today as they were several thousand years ago:

1.   Jeremiah 33:3

2.   Isaiah 40:31

3.   Zechariah 4:6

4.   II Chronicles 7:14

5.   Jeremiah 29:12-23

6.   Joshua 23:14

7.   Psalm 37:4-5

8.   Job 42:10

9.   Proverbs 3:5-10

10.  Isaiah 55:11-13

11.  Deuteronomy 33:24-26

12.  Psalm 55:22

13.  Psalm 125:5-6

14.  Isaiah 26:3-4

15.  Isaiah 48:1-3

16.  Isaiah 54:17

17.  Jeremiah 32:27

18.  Isaiah 41:10-11

19.  Joshua 1:5-9

20.  Proverbs 8:17

21.  Deuteronomy 28:12

22.  Lamentations 3:22-23

23.  Isaiah 54:17

24.  Joshua 3:7

25.  Isaiah 30:15

26.  Proverbs 11:25

27.  Isaiah 65:24

28.  Malachi 4:2

29.  Ecclesiastes 11:1

30.  Deuteronomy 7:9

31.  Proverbs 16:7

(Listed in the same order as originally presented to me.)

I have these highlighted in my Bible, and I will sometimes read over a few of them each night and then write in my journal where these promises have manifested in my life.  Big things and little things.  This has been a very good spiritual exercise for me, over the years, to help keep me aware of not only the promises of God, but also delivery on those promises.  There have been a few that haven't applied - as near as I can tell - but most of them have.

Mine and Rich's relationship with God continues to be very important & essential to the both of us and we have incorporated several spiritual practices into our marriage as we will write about in the future.

Our hope is that you all find these promises something to think about, meditate upon and explore in your own lives.

Have a great evening and I will be posting the New Testament prayer promises at a later date.
